Im thinking of getting a dell xps laptop for school / gaming (AoC and War)
http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/reftopic.aspx/dhs/en/xps_hot_offers?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~tab=2 The laptop i was looking at is the first one to the top left on the page. Can some people give me some input of what i might be able to run on that machine? Thanks

Aoc is bad.
At that resolution that laptop could probably run AoC but 2gigs of RAM AND Vista might be cutting it kind of close

They suggest a 2.0 GHz processor for AoC as far as I can recall. I dont really know anything about laptop video cards though so Id look that up. XP would free up a lot of your RAM though if you got it instead of Vista.
Edit: That card has 256mb of memory I dont know how laptop cards work but they suggest 512mb for AoC. I googled the 8400M GS and it said the card is DX10 capable so I would figure its not bad though I wouldnt take any of this to heart as I really dont know.

I like vista more than XP but it takes more RAM to run it. When I got it all I wanted to do was punch a hole through my monitor but just like XP once you learn it then its fine.

Once you learn how much vista owns XP you will hate XP. I want to curse any time anyone specs systems with XP at work. Thankfully they are all coming licensed for vista so I can ninja the upgrades myself :P

If you're using this laptop for school and gaming, prioritize school first. I mainly say this because you'll be annoyed if your laptop has an hour battery life, and the Dell XPS laptops have shit for life. So if you're going to be plugged in all the time it'll probably be fine.
As far as the rest goes, you'll probably need a high-end laptop to run AoC on it at least playable. I haven't heard of much success otherwise to be honest. Horrible game anyway, you're better off waiting out Warhammer.

Do you mean hate XP?

You need a computer with major balls to run the game, assuming you get past the 3 hour installation and patching, then the numerous patches per week.
Then you get to finally level and realize there's nothing to really do in that game.

Takes around 350MB to run XP, 700MB to run Vista straight out of the box. You can cut down the crap it uses after that.

Even if you have a laptop with good GPU, I don't think you will get much from the battery life since more powerful GPU requires more power unless you wanna keep the laptop plugged with your power socket. :P
